You spend approximately 8 hours a day, that’s 40 hours a week resulting in 25% of your life in one space. In this space you will go through every emotion so why not make it as comfortable as possible?
Studies have shown that you’re your productivity is increased by a massive 30% if you enjoy the space you work in. Below I am sharing some tips on how I think you could make your workspace somewhere you wake up and look forward to sitting at every day…
Set A Specific Workspace
It is so important to have a space that you call work, whether you work from home, in a cubicle, or rent a shared office space customising your desk and workspace makes all the difference in productivity.
If you work from home and your current workspace is the sofa, with your lap top on your lap – there are a few reasons why this might not be the best choice, it is not good for your posture, you may be easily distracted by the TV and there would be confusions between work time and personal time – productivity will be at an all time low. Find a space where you can set up a desk area with an ergonomic chair – never underestimate the value of a good chair. You will probably spend more time in that chair than you do your own bed, it should be comfortable!
Tidy Desk, Tidy Mind
Once you have a specific area, organize it. As you will be multi-tasking daily and you need to:
A. Know where everything is.
B. Ensure everything is easily accessible.
Get your layout right. Your monitor needs to be directly in front of you at eye-level. Keep your most used supplies close by and have a spot for everything. A handy de-cluttering principle to live by is to assign spaces to everything.
It is a great idea to set up a filing system and ensure you keep up with this as you go, this could be a cabinet or stacked trays – as we are all trying to keep everything saved digitally now there should be minimal paperwork.
Allow yourself to release the interior designer within, surround yourself with things that are going to allow your productivity to increase. This could range from clean lines and contemporary furniture to splashes of bright colour, plants, inspirational quotes, art work or simply by branding your space with your company logo. Bare the following quote in mind whilst making your design choices: ‘be inspired to be inspiring’.
