Woman – the power to make, nurture, change, enhance and empower, offering selfless love, care and affection.
IWD honours the women who have created opportunity and made changes towards our progress in equal rights. Since 1908 where women marched through New York asking for better pay and the ability to vote, the world has witnessed a significant change towards equality.
We celebrate the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women – while also campaigning for greater progress towards gender equality and the day aims to help nations worldwide eliminate discrimination against women. It also focused on helping women gain full and equal participation in global development.
To people of a younger generation, it may appear that women have equality and are now treated equal to men as there are a great deal of women filling huge role models in every aspect of life, however the fact is that women are still not paid equally to men and the numbers in business and politics are unbalanced. Without doubt though, great great progress has been made. We do have female prime ministers, astronauts and working mums.
How is IWD celebrated?
A global web of diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political events, business conferences and networking seminars through to local women’s craft markets, performances, fashion shows and more. Many corporations actively support International Women’s Day by running their own events and campaigns.
Lets celebrate the role of women as a daughters, wives, mothers and sisters. Women have real choices. Each year the world inspires more women and celebrates our achievements.
Grab it with open arms!
