Firstly, WHAT is a blog?

Online personal or business journal that is updated frequently. E.g. the Pioneer Chicks home page is a business blog.

WHY start a blog?

It may seem at first to be a great way to waste lots of time! What’s the point?

Drives traffic to your website

Builds trust with your audience

Gets your audience hooked….people like predictability, it gives them comfort knowing that they can come back to your blog when they want their fix of more of a similar thing

Provides you with a ton of content for social media! One blog post can easily be made into at least 10 different pieces of content.

HOW to start a blog?

Think of a name for the blog

Check the name thoroughly for similar names out there or trademarked names.

Google the name to see what else comes up – you don’t want other ‘dodgy’ material to pop up when they’re searching for you!

WHAT should I blog about?

Decide on what you want to talk about (tip, what your audience wants to see!).

Will it be an:

Inspirational blog

Educational blog

Community based blog

Behind the scenes blog

Combination of any/all of the above

Think carefully about who your target audience is, what their needs/problems are and how you can help inspire/educate/motivate them.

HOW frequently should I post?

Monthly, fortnightly, weekly, daily…. It doesn’t matter. Choose a posting schedule that will fit into your life. The more frequent you post, the more you’ll get out of it, but this depends on your personal goals. If your sole goal is to have a super successful business and have a team of staff to help then daily will be best. If you’re fitting in your business around family life then maybe a weekly or fortnightly blog post might be more realistic.
